Barbara Marion Browning

Barbara Marion Browning was born on August 19, 1946, in Virginia, to Samuel Lacy and Rosemary (Dawson) Lacy. She passed away on June 29, 2026, in Athens, Texas, at the age of 79.

Barbara made her home in Malakoff, Texas. She was the beloved wife of the late Gene Browning, with whom she shared many years of marriage. Barbara worked as a bookkeeper for many years before retiring more than 20 years ago. She had a special love for animals and found great joy in their companionship. Throughout her life, she lived in both Texas and Tennessee and treasured every moment spent with her family.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Browning; her daughter, Sandra Dillard, and her parents, Samuel Lacy and Rosemary (Dawson) Lacy; and her siblings, Patricia Orr, Luree Webb, Linda McGee, Robert Fugitt, and John Fugitt.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Rains; her sons, John Lacy and wife, Lela, and Sam Lacy and wife, Madison; her grandchildren, Jeremy French, Jessica French, Kaitlyn Lacy and husband Payton, Jace Lacy, Tyler Lacy, and Kevin Dillard; her great-grandchildren, Madison French, Chloe French, Breiden Grubbs, and Roen Lacy; her great-great-grandchild, Cayston; her sister, Marie Wagner; and her brother Craig Orr.

Barbara will be remembered for her love of animals, her devotion to her family, and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
