David Ray Davis

June 1, 1950 — August 23, 2025

Kemp, Texas

David was born on June 1, 1950 in Odessa, Texas to Ray Winston Davis and Cora Frances Wilson-Davis. He went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2025 after losing his battle with cancer.

At age 13, David became a Christian and joined Northside Baptist Church located in Odessa, Texas. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1968 and continued his education at Texas A&M University in College Station. He was in the Corps of Cadets and marched on the Bugle Rank in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band. He also served as President of the Student Chapter of the National Association of Home Builders.

After graduating in 1972 with a B.S. degree in Building Construction, David moved to Dallas, Texas where he met his future wife, Linda. They were married on April 14, 1973. In 1976, they designed and built their home in the Lively community near Kemp, Texas. David’s proudest moment was the birth of their son Michael a year later.

In 1975, David was employed by a Dallas ready mix concrete company which over the years would undergo various acquisitions, later becoming Argos Ready Mix, one of the largest in the United States. He was their Area Manager for Dallas and the surrounding areas. In 2018, after 44 years of service, came retirement.

With the help of his wife and son, David was then able to devote his full time to taking care of and operating their Beefmaster cattle ranch (Away Down Home), located in Lively. He was a lifetime member of Beefmaster Breeders United (BBU).

David always had a larger than life smile and a friendly personality. He was a very devoted and loving husband and father and will forever be cherished and missed by his loved ones.

David was preceded in death by his father and mother.

He is survived by his wife Linda A. Bateman-Davis and son Michael Putman Davis, both of Lively, sister Linda Jean Davis of Dallas, and several cousins. He is also survived by the family dog, Bailey Rose.
