David Andrew Layfield

David Andrew Layfield, age 80, of Grays Prairie, passed away September 4, 2023. His family will be holding a celebration of life on September 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Anderson Clayton Funeral Home, Kemp TX.

David was born in Big Spring, Texas on November 13, 1942. He was the second child of James and Opal (McIntosh) Layfield. David grew up in the Odessa area. Soon after he graduated from High School, he moved to Dallas, Texas where he met and married his beloved wife of 58 years Evelyn (Hopson). David and Evelyn were married on November 21, 1964 and soon welcomed a son Joel.

While living in Dallas, David started his career at Sears in the catalog department. He worked at Sears for a total of 30 years, in various departments, ending his career as an Over the Road Truck Driver. David continued working as an Over the Road Truck Driver, until his retirement in 2008.

 In 1968, David, Evelyn and Joel moved to Lancaster, Texas where they grew their family by adding a daughter Deanna and a son Stacy. In 1987, David, Evelyn and Stacy moved to Grays Prairie, Texas, where he lived until his death.

David is survived by his children Joel and Kerry (Russell), Deanna and Mark Barbaree and Stacy and Carlen (Williams). His grandchildren Erin and Josh Powell, Jessica Layfield, Rachel and Kalub El-Etoum, Lizzy Barbaree, Caleb, Paul, and Liliana Layfield. His five great-grandchildren Aubrey, Andrew, Alyvia, Raylee and Kash, and grand-dogs Monroe and Bluey, several nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his parents, his brother James Nelson Layfield and sister Alice Layfield Bellew and his two dogs Jake and Dash.
