It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Kay Doss, a beloved member of our community, who left this world on August 18, 2025, at her home, in Kemp, Texas surrounded by loved ones. She was born on October 12, 1957, in Dallas, Texas to parents Sylvin Clifton and Jimmie Lou (Thomas) Smith, Jr.
Deborah was a proud graduate of Kemp High School, class of 1975, where she was an enthusiastic Yellowjacket. Her spirit and dedication to her hometown were evident in all that she did. Her professional journey began with her passion for photography, which blossomed into a well-respected photography business cherished by those around her. Later, she served as an executive director of public housing, dedicating herself to the welfare of the community she loved. Deborah's impact on her community, friends and family will be felt for generations to come. In addition to her professional achievements, Deborah became known for her vibrant personality. She was a volunteer at heart and was always eager to lend a helping hand to her neighbors and friends. To Deborah, family came first, and she embodied a small-town spirit that made her a beloved figure among those who knew her. It was often said she never met a stranger, and was a steadfast friend to many. Deborah had a myriad of hobbies that brought her joy, from gardening and nurturing her plants to capturing beautiful moments through her lens. Many will remember her fondly for her playful spirit with her grandsons and her love for celebrating her town at events such as every four-year Homecoming and spirited town parades.
Deborah took great pride in watching her grandsons grow and cherished her #1 Granna Badge. Deborah leaves behind cherished memories that will linger in the hearts of her family and community. She will be remembered for the countless holidays spent together, the family memories created, and her unwavering commitment to making Kemp more beautiful for everyone to enjoy. Her legacy of kindness, hard work, and dedication is a beacon for all who had the privilege of knowing her. Deborah Kay Doss will be dearly missed, but her spirit will forever shine bright in the lives she touched.
Deborah is preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Jimmie Lou Smith, Jr., and her son, Jeremy Doss along with many other friends and family members.
Deborah is survived by her husband, Bob Tinsley; daughter, Daisy Cromer (Rusty Clamon); daughter -in- love, Kelly Knowles (Bradley Knowles); grandchildren, Halen Cromer, Lane Doss, Huston Cromer, Keller Knowles, Grit Knowles and King Knowles; siblings, David Smith (Robin Smith), Regina Kiser (John Kiser), and Carla Smith; as well as numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
