Evelyn Hopson Layfield

Evelyn (Hopson) Layfield, age 79, of Grays Prairie, she passed away November 22, 2022. Her family will be holding a celebration of life on December 3, 2022, at 3:00 pm at the Rockin’ Country Church, in Kemp, Texas.

 

Evelyn was born in Orange, Texas on January 16, 1943. She was second of ten children of Wilburn and Doris (Hosea) Hopson. She grew up in Huntington, Texas. She moved to Dallas where she met her husband, David, and they got married November 21, 1964.In 1968 they moved to Lancaster, Texas where they raised their three children. In 1987, they moved to Gray Prairie, Texas, where she enjoyed the rest of her days.

 

Evelyn enjoyed doing various crafts, mostly sewing, knitting, and crocheting. At one time she learned and enjoying spinning her own yarn. She was an avid reader and enjoying studying the bible and growing in her walk with our Lord. She enjoyed her children, and they kept her busy, with many weekend nights with high school rodeos, football, basketball, and baseball.

 

2001 Evelyn was diagnosed with Ovarian, Uterine and Colon Cancer. She fought hard, which resulted with her being a 21-year survivor. In 2020 she was diagnosed with Dementia which contributed her passing. 

Evelyn is survived by her husband David, children Joel and Kerry (Russell), Deanna and Mark Barbaree and Stacy and Carlen (Williams). Her grandchildren Erin and Josh Powell, Jessica Layfield, Rachel and Kalub El-Etoum, Lizzy Barbaree, Caleb, Paul, and Liliana Layfield. Her five great-grandchildren Aubrey, Andrew, Alyvia, Raylee and Kash, and grand-dog Monroe. Sisters Wilma Mettlen, and Doris Shaw, and Brothers Burtis, Kenneth and Jesse Hopson and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers David, Curtis, Keith, and Cary Hopson.

Evelyn’s family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either American Alzheimer’s Association, or National Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

Arrangements are under direction of Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home of Kemp, TX.
