James Reasonover

James Glen Reasonover went to be with our Savior April 24, 2026. James was born December 29, 1946 and raised on a West Texas farm by his father, Charles Edward and mother, Alta Juanita Cain along with his older brother William and two younger sisters. 

While in public school James was active in football, played trombone in the band, sang in the high school choir and was a member of the FFA. After graduating from Seagraves High School, he attended Lubbock Christian College and completed his degree in Industrial Education at West Texas A&M.  After a 30-year career of teaching high school students’ industrial arts, he retired to his parent’s home in Kemp along with his brother. They were both faithful members of the Seven Points Church of Christ and rarely missed a service.  James put his love for beautiful wood to work by designing and building ornate mantel, wall and grandfather clocks. It was not out of the ordinary for James to cut down a tree, mill the wood with his antique saw mill and use it in one of his clocks. He designed and built over 30 clocks with none being exactly the same.    During the Covid pandemic, James and his brother William, would go to the food bank once a week where they loaded their pickups and delivered food all over the community, giving whatever the food bank brought and distributed to the people who were in need. They felt that was something they could do to help people trying to feed families when businesses were closed and jobs were cut off.  James is described by his sisters, as a fellow that loved the outdoors and working in his wood shop. His honesty, kindness and talents were well known by the people who knew him best. It was an honor to call him brother, and they know that his talent and goodness have blessed many students, friends and especially his family.

James is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother William Edward. He is survived by two sisters, Myra Kent and husband Leonard of Tyler, Alta Owens and husband Larry of Hedley, Texas, nieces and nephews; Katherine Carter and husband Lyle of Flint, TX, Laura Owens of Canyon, James Edward Kent and wife Geneva of Flint, TX, Charles Donald Owens of Hedley, great nephews, Benjamin Cash Carter, Charles Edward Owens, Connor James Owens, Caden Keohane Owens, John Edward Kent and many cousins and friends. James was a resident at Brookdale South Memory Care in Tyler the past 3 years.

His family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the wonderful staff at Brookdale and Hospice where he was loved, cared for and comforted these past years. Visitation will be at Anderson Cayton Funeral Home in Kemp May 2nd with visitation at 1:30 PM and service at 2:00 PM. Interment will be at the Kemp Community Cemetery.
