Juanita M. Lucas, 96, of Kemp, Texas, passed away on June 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on October 22, 1929, in Beaumont, Texas, to Jose Arias and Elodia (Miranda) Moreno.
Juanita learned the value of hard work at an early age. She left school in the ninth grade to help support her family, demonstrating the selflessness that would define her life. Determined to finish what she had started, she proudly earned her GED at the age of 52, an accomplishment that reflected her strength, perseverance, and belief that it is never too late to achieve a goal. Juanita devoted most of her life to being a homemaker, creating a home filled with love, warmth, and lasting memories. She was known as a kind, loving, caring, and compassionate woman whose greatest joy was her family. She cherished every opportunity to gather with those she loved, especially during family reunions and visits with her sisters, children, grandchildren, neighbors, and friends. She found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Juanita enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, and antiquing. Whether tending to her garden, creating something beautiful with her hands, or welcoming loved ones into her home, she had a special way of making everyone feel cared for.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Lucas Padilla and husband Gonzalo of Waxahachie, Texas; Deborah Marie Lucas and wife Cindy Hill of Kemp, Texas; and Jeri Lynn Garrett and husband George of Coldspring, Texas; her son, Carlos Neil Lucas and wife Lisa of Leander, Texas; grandchildren Christopher, Jeremy, Jami, Tommy, Colby, Erica, and Mercedes; great-grandchildren Zachary, Darion, Zailey, Mackenzie, Kera, Cayden, Lydia, Hailey, Brayden, Tate, Sarah, Brody, Greysen, Theodore, Madison, Alexandria, and Austin; great-great-grandchildren Oliver ("Ollie") and Eli; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, neighbors, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Arias Moreno and Elodia Moreno; her husband, Tommy R. Lucas; her sisters Angie, Virginia, Judy, Toni, Mary, Olivia, Helen, Delia, Josie, and Delores; and her beloved granddaughter, Laci Leigh Lucas.
Juanita's gentle spirit, generous heart, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
