Martha Jean Phillips, 89, passed away Wednesday July 31, 2024, at 9:44 pm at UT Health in Tyler, Texas. She was born December 8,1934 in Dallas, Texas to Edna Ruth (Pogue) and Robert E. Pilgrim of Dallas, Texas.
Martha attended Hutchins high school and was the art editor of the press club and annual staff. She attended business school in Dallas and worked for a law firm. She married Joe Thomas of Dallas. Divorced and remarried Gary Phillips of Mulvane Kansas. They were happily married 48 years before he passed. She worked at Texas Instruments before retiring at Teledyne Geo Tech in Garland, TX. She was the life of any party. Beauty and grace that would light up any room. She had a way of making everyone around her feel special and always left things better than she found them. Kindness and positivity that was contagious.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, Robert & Edna Pilgrim; husband, Gary Phillips; and siblings, Bobby Pilgrim and Pat Rolison.
Martha is survived by her sons, Greg Phillips & girlfriend Crystal Hanson of Mabank, Texas, Bart Thomas of Mabank, Texas, and Jim Thomas of Canton, Texas; grandkids, Aaron Thomas & wife Michelle of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Kelly Lastres of Austin, Texas, Greg Phillips, Jr., Ashlie Nesbitt & husband Shane of Eustace, Texas, Dillan Phillips & wife Amanda of Gun Barrel City, Texas; 13 great-grandbabies; daughter-in-law, Laura Thomas, nieces and nephews, Cathy, Cheryl, Jody, Gary, Kevin & Jerry that knew her and loved her as Aunt Mart.
