Mike Thomason

Michael "Mike" Eugene Thomason, 69, of Kemp, Texas, passed away on June 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he cherished. Mike was born on April 30, 1957, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Bobby Eugene and Vonnie Laverne (Pack).

Mike earned his bachelor's degree from Wofford College in South Carolina, where he proudly played football. He went on to build an impressive career spanning more than 50 years in the freight industry, beginning with dock work and rising through the ranks to serve in vice president-level positions. His strong work ethic, leadership, and willingness to mentor others earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout his career.

Those who knew Mike remember him as a smart, funny, honest, and selfless man. He was well-spoken, a trusted mentor, and someone who was always willing to lend guidance or encouragement. Above all, he valued family and took great pride in watching the boys in his life grow into honorable young men.

Outside of work, Mike enjoyed watching football, spending time working in the yard, and playing with his beloved dogs. Friday night football games brought him special joy, as did the simple pleasures of being with those he loved most.

Among his proudest moments were seeing his family flourish and celebrating the birth of his cherished granddaughter, Kovey.

Mike is lovingly survived by his wife, Kendra Thomason of Kemp, Texas; his stepsons, Kasey Cockrell and spouse Kayle of Kemp, Texas, and Klayden Cockrell of Canton, Texas; his granddaughter, Kovey Cockrell of Kemp, Texas; his mother, Vonnie Thomason of South Carolina; and his sister-in-law, Karen Thomason of South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Thomason, and his brother, Joe Thomason.

In keeping with Mike's wishes, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to a cancer charity such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, or the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

Mike's legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
