Tommy Dewayne Witherspoon

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tommy DeWayne Witherspoon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Tommy peacefully departed this world on July 6, 2026, at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with ALS, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family at his home.

Born on January 18, 1957, in Dallas, Texas, Tommy was the cherished son of the late Clarence Witherspoon and Fran McMahan, who predeceased him. From an early age, Tommy was instilled with the values of hard work and dedication. At the tender age of 17, he began his career alongside his father, installing auto glass. His determination and entrepreneurial spirit led him to eventually co-own an Auto Glass Company, later founding his own business, Auto Glasswerks, where he had the honor of working alongside his son, Casey, until August 2018, when he became disabled. Tommy's life was defined by his love of family and the great outdoors. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and even trying his hand at gardening. A true collector at heart, Tommy had an eye for antiques and a knack for discovering treasures, often referred to as "yard art" or "junk." His quick wit and humor were unmatched, and he had an extraordinary ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. Above all, Tommy's most treasured accomplishments were his children, Candis and Casey, whom he loved dearly. He was a devoted provider, ensuring that his family was well cared for and supported. His legacy of love and dedication will live on through his cherished family: his loving wife, Charlotte Witherspoon; his daughter, Candis Humphreys and her husband Brandon; his son, Casey; his granddaughter, Lila Scott; and his grandson, Jett Witherspoon, all of Arlington, Texas. Tommy also leaves behind his beloved bonus children, Kelly Brown and husband Taylor of Jacksonville, TX, and Stacy Castro and husband Eric of Eustace, TX; his sister, Angela McMahan of Ennis, seven bonus grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. To me, Tommy was so much more than my husband-he was my best friend, my greatest blessing, my safe place, and the love of my life. He was my world. Through every joy and every challenge, we walked through life hand in hand, building a life filled with love, laughter, faith, and unforgettable memories. I will forever cherish the time we shared; I will miss the unconditional love he gave so freely, I will miss all the little love notes he placed around the house for me to find. Although my heart is broken, I find comfort in knowing that the incredible man so many loved is now at peace. While I will miss hearing his laughter, seeing his smile, and simply having him by my side, I know his love will remain with me always. Until we meet again, I will carry him in my heart every single day. I will forever miss him, forever love him, and forever thank God for the privilege of being his wife.

Tommy Dewayne Witherspoon’s legacy is one of love, faith, laughter, and compassion. He touched countless lives simply by being himself, and those who knew him are better because of it. He will be remembered for his warm spirit, unwavering love, and the laughter he brought into the lives of those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his kindness and generosity. Though we grieve his absence, we rejoice in knowing that his earthly journey has ended and that he is now at peace in the loving arms of our Savior.

A service to celebrate Tommy's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Tool, located at 1001 Hwy 274, Tool, TX 75143.  The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Cedar Lake Hospice in Malakoff for their compassionate care, with special thanks to RN Sarah Kuykendall, CNA Sandra Wright, and the devoted care givers who were always by his side, Christi Williams and Roger Brown. The family also wishes to express heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of love, support, phone calls, visits, and prayers from friends and family during this difficult time.
